Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Aaron Belnap Ross was born in Ogden, Utah, on 26 June 1917. After washing out of flight training for the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1941, he became a GP doctor with a practice in Ogden, Utah. He was also an amateur botanist, ornithologist, and photographer, but his real interest lay in running the Green and Colorado Rivers, as well as other rivers, on his own and with Jack Brennan, an early river outfitter who, with Don Harris, ran Harris-Brennan River Expeditions in the 1950s and 1960s. Besides his interest in river running, Ross was also an avid skier, and was the owner and manager of the Gelande Inn, a ski shop and cafeteria at Snow Basin Ski Resort. Ross died of leukemia on 20 October 1973.
