Historical NoteReturn to Top

Theodore Genichi Nagata (b. 1935) was born in California, but relocated to the Topaz internment camp with his family in the 1940s, where he lived from the age of six until nine. He graduated from the University of Utah with a B.A. in art history in 1959. He was awarded an M.F.A. from the same department the following year. Shortly after receiving this degree he founded Ted Nagata Graphic Design, Inc. Nagata has designed logos and posters for the University of Utah, Salt Lake County, Utah Transit Authority, and several Utah ski resorts. In 1985 he was inaugurated into the Art Directors Club of Salt Lake City hall of fame. Yeiko Nagasawa Nagata is a native of Salt Lake City, where her family operated the New Sunrise Fish Market for many years.

I:  New Sunrise Fish MarketReturn to Top

The New Sunrise Fish Market was located in the heart of Salt Lake City's Japanese Town from the early 1930s to the mid 1960s, when construction of the Salt Palace forced its relocation. The market was run by the Nagasawa family.
