Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Chester Francis Luther was born October 12, 1906 near Auburn, California. He received his Bachelor of Arts in 1928, his Master of Arts in 1929, and his PhD in 1932 from Stanford University. Luther joined the faculty of Willamette University in 1936, succeeding retiring professor James T. Matthews. From 1940 until 1946, Luther served as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts. Luther taught mathematics at Willamette until 1972. After his retirement Luther actively campaigned for the University's department of Alumni and Parent Relations.

Hatfield, reports from the Office of the College of Liberal Arts Dean, and letters to the Board of Trustees about the resignation of Roger J. Fritz. Photographs, event pamphlets, and other university ephemera from Luther's tenure at Willamette University are also represented.
