Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Bill Schmidt was a Professor of Education and instructor in the Department of Instructional Media at Central Washington University from 1963 until his retirement in 1999. In 1991, during the centennial of the opening of the Washington State Normal School (presently Central Washington University), Schmidt received photographic negatives from Harriet Gibbons, the daughter of H. Glenn Hogue, as a gift for the university archives.

This collection consists of roughly 100 negatives of the Herbert Glenn Hogue family and friends from the 1930s to the 1950s, eight glass negatives of Hogue family relatives from the 1910s and a 16mm film of the Hogue family hiking circa 1930s. The collection also contains 16mm films of the Hebeler Elementary School, prior to its closure in 1981, and promotional film outtakes of campus buildings and grounds in the early 1980s. Included are reel to reel audio tapes of a speech given at Central Washington University by Carl Sandberg in 1948, a dedication speech by Dr. Hogue in 1966 commemorating the opening of Beck Hall, a short 16 mm film clip of the campus in the 1970s, and negatives of pictographs found at Columbia Priest Rapids in the 1930s.
