Historical NoteReturn to Top

Neighbors in Need was a social-service agency founded in November 1970 by the Church Council of Greater Seattle, Ecumenical Metropolitan Ministry, Fellowship of Christian Urban Service, and Churches of Greater Seattle to distribute food to needy persons "on a short term emergency basis." N.I.N., however, disbanded in 1974, having determined that the need was then less acute and that its continued existence allowed the government to avoid its responsibility to the poor.
