Historical NoteReturn to Top

Nursing education at the Medical School was organized on a collegiate basis and led to a BS degree. The curricula, coordinated with clinical education in the UOMS hospitals and clinics, prepared the students for state registration.

Nursing Care Studies was taught in the Department of Nursing Education at the University of Oregon Medical School by Mary Toy, BA, RN, MSN (assistant professor of Nursing Education and a member of the committee on Instruction in Clinical Nursing) and Mildred Bergheim, MA, MSW, (supervisor of and instructor in medical social service and a member of the Scholarship committee). The students studied the principles underlying nursing care and application of the methods used and found effective in other fields to the development and use of nursing case histories. Lectures: 2-4 hours; 22-24 hours.
