Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Community activist and Washington State Legislator (1992-2004).

An immigrant from the Philippines, Veloria was the first Filipina elected to state legislature in the continental United States, serving six terms as a Washington State Representative (11th District) from 1992-2004. During her tenure she was involved with issues such as human rights, health care, ecomonic development, and co-authored legislation to combat human trafficking and require oversight of international trade agreements. Veloria served as a member of the Katipunan ng Demokratikong Pilipino (KDP), or Union of Democratic Filipinos. Her husband is Alonzo Suson, community and labor activist.
