The Network of Editors and Writers (NEWs), established in 1986, was a professional association with membership open to all University of Washington employed or affiliated writers and editors, as well as others involved in University communications. It offered professional enrichment opportunities including: programs about the creative, technical, and promotional aspects of producing printed works; projects related to job advancement and enhancement; association with colleagues; and an annual membership directory. The group was originally named the Network of University Writers and Editors.
