Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Eugene Smith was born in 1927 in David City, Nebraska. He worked as a Foreign Student Advisor at University of Colorado, Boulder before moving to Bozeman with his wife, author Phyllis Smith, in 1988. Eugene has spent more than 80 years angling across the US and nearly 30 fishing the rivers around his home in Bozeman.

Acquisition Information
Seven handwritten fishing diaries and fifty-eight volumes on fishing were donated to Montana State University by Eugene Smith of Bozeman, Montana on October 9, 2015. The volumes were separated for item level cataloging.
