The Independent Organization of Odd Fellows is a fraternal organization that traces its roots back to 17th century England. The first North American Odd Fellows lodge was founded in Baltimore, Maryland, on April 26, 1819.

The first Odd Fellows lodge in Oregon was organized in 1852, in Salem.

Abel Helman (1824 - ), of Ashland, Oregon, was an Oregon pioneer. He was the Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Oregon in the late 1890s.

The collection (1891-1893) consists of two volumes containing the written record of decisions and transactions of Grand Master Abel D. Helman. One volume is from June 13, 1891 to May 13, 1892. The second volume is from May 19, 1892 to May 1893.
