Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Halvor Strandrud was born on July 14th, 1916 during his mother’s trip to Seattle. His family lived in Tye, Washington where his father worked as a railway engineer. In 1921 the family moved to Skykomish, Washington, then in 1927 moved to Seattle where Strandrud would graduate from Roosevelt High School. He attended the University of Washington and MIT to study engineering. He began his career by working for GE, and the then Bonneville Power Administration, where he worked in Ephrata where he met his wife Marguerite Thiemens. During World War II he served as a Captain, helping to write an early instructional manual for radar. He served again in the Korean War at White Lands Proving Ground. In 1954 he began his career at Boeing which would last for 24 years. In 1972 he began to work part-time as a lecturer in math and engineering at the University of Washington. He died on November 30, 2005 in Seattle.
