Historical NoteReturn to Top

Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Grelle were the parents of daughters Elsa and Freda Grelle, and son Edward Grelle and his wife Bessie (nee' Henry). They may have been originally from New Jersey, but the family did spend a lot of time in Oregon.

Content DescriptionReturn to Top

Frederick Grelle material consists of a diary/scrapbook of a trip to Europe in 1903.

There is also one incoming letter (1907) from a widower who was married to Frederick Grelle's sister, and had a child, Julia, who was fifteen at the time of the letter. In the letter the man informs Grelle that while in Spain he was captured and sentenced to eighteen years of penal servitude. He tells Grelle that before he left for Spain he put money in a London Bank, and he wishes Grelle to become his daughter's guardian, and to retrieve the money for her care.

There are also correspondence files for Elsa Grelle (1899-1956), Edward Grelle, whose nickname might have been Fritz (1901-1910), and a large amount of letters sent to Frederick Grelle's wife, often called Mina, which might have been short for Wilhelmina (1869 -1918).
