Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Agnes M. Anderson was born in Michigan in 1901. She came to Oregon with her family in 1908. They settled in Warren, near St. Helens. She went through Warren Grade School and then to St. Helens High School. She attended Oregon Normal School for one academic year, 1920-1921. Agnes then returned to Warren to teach at the grade school for a few years. She then returned to ONS and graduated in June 1924.
Agnes taught elementary school in Astoria for four years. In the fall of 1928 she enrolled in the State Teachers College of Fresno (California) to continue her professional training. She was granted her diploma in June 1929. Agnes went on to teach elementary school for over 30 years in the Long Beach, California school system. She retired in 1961, after which she enjoyed some foreign travel to Europe and Asia. Agnes died in California in March 1980.

This collection contains brief biographical information about Agnes M. Anderson and materials related to Oregon Normal School and the city of Monmouth. Also included are three yearbooks from Oregon Normal School and one personal scrapbook. The scrapbook is 7” x 11” and features a red O.N.S. sticker on the cover. The scrapbook contains numerous topics, including dance cards and school ephemera; photographs of student groups, women's softball team, May Day celebrations, campus building interiors and exteriors, social events, and buildings in Monmouth.
