Marvin Tims was born on June 27, 1920 in Seattle, Washington. He attended Jefferson High School in Portland, and Multnomah College. He enlisted in the military immeadiately after the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. He served in the Army's 419th Bomb Squadron during World War II. after the war, he finished his degree in journalism from the University of Oregon. He worked as a reporter for The Register-Guard for 38 years, and was inducted into the newspaper's The Register-Guard's Reporter's Hall of Fame in 1987. He died on January 16th, 2014.
