Historical NoteReturn to Top
Bertoch (1915-1978) received his Bachelor of Arts and his law degree from the University of Utah. Afterward, he became a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. During World War II he served in the United States Navy as the captain of a small gun boat. In 1946, he returned to Salt Lake City to work as a trial lawyer at the Ray, Quinney, and Nebeker law firm. He also served as the Chief Criminal Deputy of the Salt Lake County Attorney's Office from 1948-1949. In addition to his law career, Bertoch was also a writer. He wrote several articles on the history of law, as well as short stories, plays, novelettes, and novels (many of which remain unpublished) on ancient Greece and courtroom mysteries.
