James S. "Cashup" Davis was one of the early settlers of the Palouse region of eastern Washington. He settled near Steptoe Butte, and eventually built a hotel on its summit. Duane Mars Davis is his grandson.

This collection contains materials relating to the history of the Davis family, including several biographical articles about pioneer James S. "Cashup" Davis. The collection also includes materials created by poet Duane Mars Davis, such as a resume and background information about the poem "Invocation," which was dedicated to President John F. Kennedy.
