Content DescriptionReturn to Top

The John Faudskar Papers consist of materials created and assembled by Faudskar pertaining to the use of a pesticide (carbaryl; trade name Sevin) for control of sand and mud shrimp in oyster beds in Tillamook Bay, Oregon and Grays Harbor, Washington. The papers document experimental pesticide applications in Washington and Oregon in the early 1960s and the early 1980s. The materials include correspondence, meeting minutes and notes, newspaper clippings, journal articles, reports, legal documents, and photographs. The correspondence and reports include materials prepared by William Q. Wick, the Washington Department of Fisheries, and the Oregon Department of Fisheries and Wildlife.

The legal documents relate to challenges brought by the Audubon Society of Portland, the Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition, and the Oregon Environmental Council to the Oregon Land Use Board of Appeals regarding the early 1980s pesticide applications in Tillamook Bay.

The photographs consist of 28 slides of the 1962 tests in Grays Harbor, Washington.
