Historical NoteReturn to Top

The Oregon State University (OSU) Collegiate FFA Chapter was established by 1941 and provides opportunities for leadership development and personal growth for students enrolled in agriculture courses or pursuing careers in agriculture.  The OSU chapter assists with Oregon FFA Association career development events and the FFA State Convention.  The chapter also provides service and support to numerous non-profit agricultural organizations.

The Future Farmers of America was established in 1928 in Kansas City, Missouri.  In 1988, the organization changed its name to the National FFA Organization to reflect the growing diversity in the industry of agriculture.

Content DescriptionReturn to Top

The Oregon State University Collegiate FFA Chapter records document the membership and activities of this student organization.  The records consist of photographs and slides, newsletters, photograph albums, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings and announcements, and handbooks.

The photographs and photograph albums include portrait photographs of members, officers, and agricultural education faculty; group photographs of chapter members; and images of picnics, field trips, meetings, and student teaching internships.  A 2013 photograph of Oregon FFA members on  Coleman Field at Goss Stadium on the Oregon State campus is part of the collection.  Most of the photographs in the collection are b/w and color photographic prints (primarily b/w); 85 color slides are included as well.

The collection includes scrapbooks for the 1974-1975 and 1977-1978 academic years.  These scrapbooks include photographs of officers, members, and activities; descriptions of the chapter's programs during the year; clippings; lists of agricultural education majors; and ephemera.

The newsletters include a few issues of  Old Yeller, the newsletter for Oregon agriculture teachers and the Oregon Future Farmer.  The  newspaper clippings and announcements provide information about chapter activities and meetings.  The handbooks include two handbooks produced by the Oregon FFA Associaton:  State FFA Degree Handbook (2000) and State Proficiency Award Handbook (2001).  A 2003 handbook for planning a chapter banquet is also included.
