Historical NoteReturn to Top
The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine was established in 1957 to develop research, training and clinical care in medical rehabilitation. Dr. Justus F. Lehmann was selected to serve as the first chairman and established the residency training program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and divisions of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Prosthetics and Orthotics. The first physiatrists were graduated from the residency training program in 1963. The Department continues to produce physiatrists, focusing on patient care, education and training, and research
