Karl Pretshold (d. January 11, 1975) was a prominent journalist in East St. Louis, Illinois and wrote primarily for a paper called the Journal. His work as a journalist took him oversees to England, France, and Germany. His work focused primarily on the subjects of unions, the labor movements in America and abroad, and Socialist and Marxist theory. His journalism career spanned several decades from roughly 1929 to the 1970s. Pretshold also worked in public relations for the Department of Health in New York beginning in the mid 1940's. He was married to Hannah Pretshold. Pretshold died in New York on January 11, 1975.

This collection contains manuscripts of Pretshold's work, correspondences, publications, and scrapbooks primarily containing newspaper clippings, as well as personal ephemera. The collection concerns the following dates and subjects: 1902, 1928-1970. Unions, he labor movement, Marxism and Socialist theory, corporate corruption, public health, the Cold War, the Red Scare, the Oppenheimer hearing, and development of the Polio vaccination.
