Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Zha Fuxi (1895–1976) was a masterful player of the guqin - a musical instrument in the zither family. His family came from the province of Jiangxi in southeast China, which is where he first learned to play the guqin. He co-founded the Jinyu Qin Society, an important national guqin organization in 1936. In addition, he was a vice-chairman of the National Musical Association of China, president of the Beijing Guqin Society, and a department head at the Central Institute of (Folk) Music. In 1945, he came to the United States and made a few recordings of his music at the Library of Congress.
