Historical Note

Calista "Lissa" Ward was born in Boise in 1926 to Frank Ward and Catherine Shinners Ward. She was raised in Boise with her mother and in Huntington, Oregon with her maternal Aunt Maude Hartwell. Lissa graduated from St. Teresa's Academy in Boise in 1943 where she met her future husband Charles Hummel. She graduated from Marylhurst College in Lake Oswego, Oregon in 1947, and married Charles in 1951 at St. John's Cathedral in Boise. After Charles completed his master's degree in architecture in 1953 at Columbia University, the family settled permanently in Boise. The couple had four children: Michael (1952), Kay (1954), John (1959) and Joan (1964).

Lissa died in Boise on Februrary 24, 2015.

Content Description

The Calista "Lissa" Hummel Papers contain photographs, scrapbooks, correpsondence and other personal papers documenting the life of Lissa and her extended family. In addition to offering geneological information about a prominent Boise family, the collection provides local history insight into the communitites of Huntington, Oregon and Boise, Idaho.
