Historical Note

Utah State University has had a long history of research in water development, application and conservation. Among the earliest projects undertaken at the Utah Agricultural Experiment Station involved irrigation. The Station's first director J.W. Sanborn published his research in 1893.

The institution's international reputation has placed it at the forefront in irrigation technology and drainage, where scientists have served throughout the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. Formation of the Utah Water Research Laboratory in 1959 helped enable this international connection, as well as providing needed engineering expertise at the local and regional level.

Content Description

This collection includes materials from a wide variety of sources relating to water development in the Intermountain Region of the Western United States. Wherever possible the materials have been arranged according to subject. As new materials have been acquired, however, they have been added in numerical order. For instance, the collection begins with materials on the Colorado River Storage Project (nos. 1-.) Other materials on the Colorado project may appear as a later number, as well.

Book numbers 19 thru 34 are promotional brochures. Book numbers 242-261 are individually cataloged and available through the Library's on-line catalog.
