Historical Note

Organized 1915 by emigrants from the village of Sianna on the Island of Rhodes, Greece, to improve economic and social conditions in their home village; disbanded in 1956.

The Sianna Society raised money to purchase materials for the construction of a modern olive oil press, and for the installation of pipes to bring water to the village. It also raised money to build a Greek school, and in 1945 help with medical and economic aid for the war victimes in the village. When the society was disbanded in 1956, the money remaining in the treasury was sent to the village to complete projects.
