The University of Washington Ethnomusicology Archives has been collecting and curating unique ethnographic music recordings for over 50 years. Its holdings of more than 15,000 items include field recordings documenting music traditions of all kinds from most areas of the world, concert recordings of visiting musicians, and films and videos of a variety of musical events, as well as several hundred musical instruments. The Archives serves the students and faculty in the UW Ethnomusicology Program, the broader university community, Pacific Northwest tribes, and an international clientele of musicians, students, and teachers.

Tape copies made in Music rm. 32 with sound restoration equipment (John Gibbs supervising)
Performers: Pre-revolutionary include: F. Shaliapin (Chaliapin); M. Mikhailova; N. Tamara; A. Bial'tseva; M. Kovalenko; P. Batorin; Soviet include: S. Lemeshev; O. Kovaleva; M. Mikhailov; I. Kozlovskii; G. Vinogradov; I. Skobtsov; Fedorov Sisters; Red (Soviet) Army Chorus; Piatnitsky Chorus; Voronezh Chorus; Urals Chorus; Osipov Folk Orchestra.
Instruments include accordian, baian, balalaika, domra, gusli ensemble, guitar, piano.
Texts sung in Russian (central & eastern dialects), except for 2 records in mixed Russian and Roma (Gypsy) and one in Ukranian.
Source: 49 78-rpm, monophonic records (16 acoustic, 33 electric (lateral grooved)) recorded in Tsarist russia (10) and Soviet Union (39) 1907-1950.
This project was begun 3/85 and discontinued 6/85, remaining incomplete; more disc taping and documentation needs to be done. (LS 7/90)
