Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Jean Clark, teacher of South American missionary children, was born in Eudora, Kansas, January 19, 1924. She graduated from Westmar College, Le Mars, Iowa, in 1949. She served with May Wallace as co-pastor of the Friends Church in Agnew, Washington, for fifteen years from 1958-1973. While at Agnew she wrote the following in a form letter: "I am Sunday School Superintendent, church pianist, co-sponsor of the Junior Christian Endeavor group, teacher of the Nursery Class of 2-3 year olds ... During the week I work in the accounting department …” She decided to become a teacher, went back to college, earned her teaching certificate from Washington state, and taught second grade at Sequim, Washington, public school for twelve years. When she was asked to go to Peru to teach the children of Friends missionaries in 1975, she accepted. She returned to Peru for a three-year period in the fall of 1979. Jean worked at Barclay Press for many years after returning from Peru and was an active member for Newberg (Oregon) Friends Church. She retired to the Friendsview Retirement Community and passed away December 10, 2010.
