Biographical NoteReturn to Top
John Rahn is a composer, bassoonist, music theorist, and teacher. He is a Professor of Music at the University of Washington School of Music (Seattle, United States), and teaches courses in composition and theory. Throughout his career, he has published a variety of articles as well as composed a chamber opera to be performed by five singers and a small orchestra.
Imrat Khan (1935-2018) was a sitar and surbahar player, teacher, and composer from Calcutta, India. He was born into a musical family, and his older brother was sitar maestro Ustad Vilayat Khan. During the 1950s, he performed with his brother, but from the 1960s onward he performed solo. He toured around the world playing music, and in 1988 he received a Sangeet Natak Akademi Award from the president of India.
