Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Robert Durham, a noted architect of churches, was born and raised in Tacoma, Washington. He received a Bachelor of Architecture degree and graduated cum laude from the University of Washington in 1936. Durham was senior partner in the firm of Durham, Anderson and Freed of Seattle. He served as secretary of the Washington State Chapter, American Institute of Architects, in 1942; Board member from 1947-1950; and President in 1954. He served as National President in 1967/68. In 1959, he advanced to Fellowship in the Institute for Design and Service to the Profession. Included among his public service are memberships in the Seattle Municipal Art Commission, 1955-1965; Seattle Building Code Advisory Committee, 1950-1965; and chairman, Seattle World's Fair Cultural Arts Committee, 1959-1961. He also served as a board member and vice president of the Guild for Religious Architecture.
