Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Elva Susan Baker (Atkinson) was born in Forest Grove, Oregon in 1881. She attended Oregon State Normal school in Monmouth, Oregon and graduated with a teaching degree in 1902. Elva married Eugene Atkinson and raised five daughters in Sand Lake, Oregon. Elva passed away in April 1956 in California after a long career in teaching.

Included are photographs of Elva Susan Baker, portraits of her classmates, and class photographs; teaching certificates/licenses for the State of Oregon and a diploma; and a herbarium created by Elva Susan Baker.

The herbarium was created by Elva Susan Baker. The cover reads "Oregon State Normal Herbarium" with an illustration of Campbell Hall. The dates recorded in the herbarium range from April-May of 1901. All of the plant locations are local to Monmouth, Oregon, and include areas such as fields, roadsides, swamps, forests, pastures, and meadows near the Normal School.
