Biographical NoteReturn to Top
James Reid MacDonald (1856-1893) was born in Elgin, Scotland. He married Mary Louise Fischer (1861-1935) on September 4, 1883 in Chicago, Illinois. Leroy Fischer (1887-1976), their first child, was born in Illnois. The family then moved to Seattle where they had 3 more children: James Frederick (1889-1978), and twin sisters Dorothy (1891-1980) and Helen Mary (1891-1979).
Sources: Helen and Dorothy along with the other MacDonald children appear in the 1900 and 1910 Federal census. In the 1900 census, Mary Louise MacDonald is listed as a widow. Additional information about James Reid MacDonald was found in a passport request by Dorothy MacDonald in 1923. In that document, she says her father died in 1893 and that he was born in Elgin, Scotland. Helen was married in 1920 to Edwin Ray Guthrie.
