Archives West Finding Aid

Collection of historical interest stories, mostly written by DeHaven, printed in the Virginia City Madisonian or the Great Falls Tribune newspapers from 1952 to 1965. Also included are three brochures on the topic of the history of Montana Methodism, photocopies of oral history transcriptions and an unpublished reminiscence of DeHaven's childhood. Oral history interviews include: Tom Bird, interviewed in 1943, regarding his earliest memories of traveling to Denver, Colorado in 1859; Louis Romey, date of interview unknown, speaking on the discovery of gold in Alder Gulch and his own life in the area; Alice A. Woodworth, date of interview unknown, regarding her life in Madison County from 1878; Remi J. Baril, interviewed August 22, 1956, speaking on his early life in the lower Ruby Valley. Subjects of the clippings include: Pageville, Montana; Ennis, Montana; Rochester Montana; Twin Bridges, Montana; Methodist Church; Beaverhead Rock. Persons mentioned in the clippings include Thomas Deyarmon, Wallace Robert Page, Ernest Rodney Page, Susie L. Switzer, Harry Foster, A. M. Hough, L. B. Stateler, Hugh Duncan, William W. Alderson, W. A. Redfield, and Donald P. Redfield. The materials have been sorted into five folders of original clippings, photocopied clippings, church ephemera, oral history interviews, and reminiscence.
