Biographical Note

The Nordic Museum (previously Nordic Heritage Museum) is an internationally recognized museum and cultural center where people of all backgrounds are welcomed to be inspired by the values, traditions, art, and spirit of the Nordic peoples. Dedicated to collecting, preserving, and educating since its founding in 1980, Nordic Museum is the only museum in the United States to honor the legacy of immigrants from the five Nordic countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. The name was shortened to Nordic Museum in 2018.

Gordon Ekvall Tracie (March 22, 1920 - December 12, 1988) was an expert in Scandinavian folklore, music, and culture. He lived most of his life in Seattle, Washington, but also spent years in Scandinavia recording traditional music and dances. He founded an informal club that would become the Skandia Folkdance Club and from 1973 to 1976 was a Scandinavian folklore consultant for the Smithsonian Institute's Folklife Festival. Before passing he left his collection of Scandinavian materials to the Skandia Music Foundation, who partnered with the Nordic Heritage Museum to create the Gordon Ekvall Tracie Music Collection.
