Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Born in Vranje, Serbia on February 15th, 1884, Theodore Kusakovich was the eldest son of Viktor and Alexandra Kusakovich. He had four sisters (Danica, Anuška, Marija, and Paraskeva) and two brothers (George and Nicholas). Theodore immigrated to Seattle around 1903, using the last name Kossage for a brief period of time before eventually returning to the surname Kusakovich. Sometime between 1910 and 1914,Theodore opened a bookstore and cigar shop called the Royal Serbian Authorized Book Store. Kusakovich officially became a United States naturalized citizen in 1940. He worked in construction and mining, and was a member of the International Hod Carriers Building and Common Labor Union and the Washington State Philatelic Society. He never married and had no children. Theodore Kusakovich died on December 12th, 1979 at the age of 95.

Street Photographs of Theodore Kusakovich
These photographs where probably taken by a street
photographer who photographed Theodore Kusakovich as he completed his daily
walk through downtown Seattle. It appears that Theodore purchased the
photographs frequently, which explains the repeated documentation of his daily
walk.

Royal Serbian Authorized BookstoreReturn to Top
Around 1910, Theodore Kusakovich opened a bookstore and cigar shop on 623 King Street in downtown Seattle, Washington. The store specialized in Serbian, Croatian, and other eastern European books, as well as Turkish and Russian tobacco. The store remained opened until sometime in the 1930s, when Theodore began working as a laborer.

Kusakovich FamilyReturn to Top
Theodore Kusakovich's parents were Alexandra and Victor Kusakovich. Theodore had four sisters, Anuška, Marija, Danica, and Paraskeva, and two brothers, George and Nicholas. Marija Kusakovich married and took the last name Milojković. She had two daughters, Olga and Dobrila. One of Theodore's brothers had a daughter, Jelene, who also had a daughter named Mira. One of Theodore's brothers may have also had a daughter named Lilika. One of Theodore's sisters had a son named Boško Kusakovich.
