Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Ted C. Muller was originally from San Francisco. In 1912 he started working for the Defender Photo Supply Company after leaving the Artura Photo Supply Company. His shop, Sunset Photo Supply, was located in the Aronson Building, San Francisco.

Historical BackgroundReturn to Top

Probably the Great White Fleet battleships that circumnavigated the world from December 16, 1907 to February 22, 1909. The fleet provided a visual presentation of the United States' military strength and industrial power as well as a vessel of American goodwill as the fleet stopped in six continents. The fleet, named for thier bright white hulls, sailed from Hampton Roads, Virginia on 16 December 1907 for Trinidad, British West Indies, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Punta Arenas, Chile, Callao, Peru, Magdalena Bay, Mexico, and arrived at San Francisco on May 6, 1908. They left San Francisco the next day for Honolulu, Hawaii, Auckland, New Zealand, Australia, Manila, Philippines. Yokohama, Japan, Colombo, Ceylon, Suez, Egypt, Naples, Italy, and finally returning to Hampton Roads, Virginia on February 22, 1909.
