Historical BackgroundReturn to Top
The Cloud Cap Inn of Coopers Spur, Oregon was in operation between 1893 and 1939, hosting mountaineers who sought to ascend the summit of Mount Hood. After changing management several times, it was sold to the United States Forest Service in 1942. In 1974, the state of Oregon placed Cloud Cap Inn and the Vista House onto the register of historic places.

Content DescriptionReturn to Top
These six black and white photographs, with elegant penciled captions, document a couple's mountaineering trip to Cloud Cap Inn. With a guide and a team of four others, they climbed to the summit. The sunglasses worn suggest that these photographs were taken in the 1930s, but they are undated. All are signed with initials "P.S.C." or "P.S.G."
