- Kathryn D. Hilterbrant was a member of the 46th General Hospital during World War II and was stationed in North Africa and Southern France. Hilterbrant stayed with the Army Reserves to attain the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel and worked as a nurse anesthetist at the Vancouver Memorial Hospital in Vancouver, Washington. The collections contains an American flag and a film reel.

Kathryn D. Fisher was born July 10, 1913 in Roseburg, Oregon. Fisher was a member of the 46th General Hospital. She stayed in the Army Reserves to attain a lieutenant colonel's rank and worked at Vancouver Memorial Hospital in Vancouver, Washington for 34 years as a nurse anesthetist. In 1965, she married Howard E. Hilterbrant. Mr. Hilterbrant died in 1985.
The 46th General Hospital was organized at the University of Oregon Medical School and staffed by Oregon medical personnel. The 46th General Hospital was called to active duty and sent to Fort Riley, Kansas on July 15, 1942 to begin training for overseas duty. The 46th General Hospital landed in North Africa in August of 1943 and had been stationed near Oran, Algeria until it was moved across the Mediterranean to a town in Southern France. In Algeria, the 46th General Hospital handled casualties from the Italian front. It was designated as the specialist unit for the handling of eye cases, skin diseases and tuberculosis patients.
Kathryn Hilterbrant died on December 11, 2000 at the age of 87. Her funeral was held on December 15, 2000 in Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Vancouver, Washington.

The collection consists of an American flag and a film. The American flag was used in Kathryn Hilterbrant's funeral. The film, which has no sound, shows members of the 46th General Hospital in Kansas marching and playing sports. The film arrived in a box with the following inscription written on the front: "46th GE H 1942, film taken by Frank Lutz. This is a duplicate of a duplicate. We understand this film was taken at our basic training station, Ft. Riley, Kansas. Our boys playing baseball-at play? - Lt. Cal. Lutz headed our Dental Section."
