Historical NoteReturn to Top
The Oregon Governor's Committee for the Oregon Museum of History, Science, and Industry was organized to "bring into being a scientific museum suitably representative of the background, resources, and future of this [Oregon] state." The committee was actually composed of many committees: The General Committee; the Organizational Committee on the General Committee; and the Sub-Committee of the Organizational Committee.
Another committee that reported their findings to the Governor's Committee was the Special Commitee on Preservation of Archives.
The committees gathered information regarding artifacts and resources from historical societies and museums around Oregon, promoted the creation of a new Oregon museum, and established the Oregon Museum Foundation, Inc.
The museum that was eventually created was OMSI, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, that is still in operation in Portland, Oregon today.
