The collection consists of materials documenting the 1962 Seattle Worlds’ Fair, including brochures, a tourist guide to local dining and accommodations, a souvenir coloring book, a promotional photograph, a souvenir phonograph record and a Century 21 newspaper.

Other Descriptive InformationReturn to Top

Over 10 million people attended the Seattle World’s Fair between April 21 and October 21, 1962, including large numbers of proud Northwest residents. Although the serious theme of the fair was science, the grounds were a compelling playground of modern architecture, art, amusements, restaurants and entertainments. Before the fair opened, promoters canvassed the country and press coverage about the upcoming fair appeared in films, magazines and newspapers. Over 2.5 million pieces of promotional materials were distributed in every state. During the fair, tourist and collectible items were marketed by entrepreneurs and companies. Over 50 original songs were written about the fair and recorded on souvenir vinyl discs. Thousands of people planned special vacations to Washington to visit Seattle and attend the Century 21 Exposition.
