Asa Walter Judd was born on 28 August 1868 to Zadok Knapp Judd and Mary Minerva Dart in Lincoln County, Nevada, although at that time it was Iron County, Utah. His family moved to Kanab, Utah, in 1871. He served a mission for the LDS Church from 1887 to 1889 in Holland and then again from 1893 to 1895. Judd served in several bishoprics, was a United States Commissioner, and was elected Justice of the Peace of Fredonia in 1922. Asa Walter Judd died in 1959.

At the end of the journal is a postlogue telling what became of Asa Judd after his last entry. Also included is a notebook containing writings by others, quotes and pressed flowers.
