Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Peter S. Mussigbrod was born in Muskau, Germany, in 1856 to Charles F. and Elizabeth Mussigbrod. He was educated in Germany through a doctor of Philosophy degree at the University of Berlin in 1890. For the next two years Mussigbrod worked to acquire a practical knowledge of mining before he immigrated to the United States in 1892, arriving in Montana in June of that year. He worked in the mining field, started his own mine, served in the family business of the asylum in Warm Springs, and owned a stock ranch in the Big Hole area of Beaverhead County, Montana. Mrs. Mary Mitchell was his partner in some endeavors. Mussigbrod's passport application dated 5 Apr. 1916 indicated that he had been living in Germany since 1913 but that he planned to return to the U.S.
