Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Constance Allen Pitter Thomas (1917-2006) was an African American and a native Seattleite. She attended the University of Washington in the post-Depression years, majoring in speech and drama. She received her degree in 1941. After briefly pursuing a career as an actress in New York city, she returned to Seattle and became a substitute teacher for Seattle Public Schools for 11 years eventually landing a permanent job as a speech therapist and instructor of youth with disabilities.

Scope and Content: Tape recorded interviews conducted by Mrs. John J. Gayton and Richard C. Berner on 7 Apr 1971 (tape 59) and 15, 21, 29 Apr 1971 (tape 60); transcript for 7 Apr interview. Interviews are the beginning of Constance Allen Pitter Thomas' reminiscence on her life in Seattle.
