Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Hibari Misora (1937-1989) was a singer, actress, and cultural icon from Yokohama, Japan. She was the first woman to receive the People's Honor Award, which was awarded posthumously for providing the public with hope and encouragement after WWII. Misora recorded a total of 1,200 songs and sold more than 68 million records during her lifetime. After her death in 1989, the popularity of her music only grew. Each year, there is a special on Japanese television and radio featuring performances of her songs.
