The Homer Club of Butte, Montana, was organized in 1891 by Nettie E. Casper and named for the classical Greek author. Included in the records are minutes (1898-1970), yearbooks (1895-1984), constitutions, instructions, and miscellany. [Same as MF406.]

Historical Note

The Homer Club was organized in 1891 in Butte, Montana, to promote the members' intellectual advancement, and to use the Club's "influence in the community for higher social, educational, and moral conditions." The Club met weekly, and later biweekly, to hear presentations on literature, history, music, travel, social issues, etc. It made donations to groups performing civic activities, e.g., planting trees, children's programs, etc. Club membership has always been exclusively women.

The Homer Club records consist of minutes (1892-1970); organizational records (n.d.), including constitutions and bylaws; and miscellany (1895-1984), consisting of yearbooks which list individual members, committee membership, and program topics; and announcements about the Club's activities. This collection is also avaliable on microfilm; MF 406.
