Historical NoteReturn to Top

LeConte Stewart (1891-1990) was born in Glenwood, Utah, but spent most of his life in Kaysville, where he painted the rural landscape. His artistic repertoire covered such mediums as drawings, oils, watercolors, etchings, linocuts, and lithographs. Stewart taught school in various districts around Utah before becoming head of the Art Department at the University of Utah in 1938. He held that post until his retirement in 1956. Stewart's artistic contributions include murals for several Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints buildings, including the Hawaii, Alberta, and Arizona temples. He also painted murals for the Salt Lake International Airport.
