Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Elmo Race Richardson (1930-2011) was an Assistant and Associate Professor of History at Washington State University from 1961 to 1972. He was one of the first of a group of Historians to work in the fields of Environmental History and what is now called Public History. His work included consulting, contract research, and writing for the private and public sector.

His papers document academic duties at six universities, as well as research, writing, editing, and publication, travel to islands around the world, and his later work as an artist. Box 20 contains correspondence, testimony, copies, and photographs relating to the Civilian Conservation Corps (1933-1942) in the Pacific Northwest.

(This autobiographical sketch was supplied by Elmo Race Richardson while creating the 1991 finding aid for the collection.)
