The Johnson, Hubbs, and Coe families lived in College Place, Washington, Milton, Oregon, and Moscow, Idaho and Portland, Oregon. They all had children who were attending college at different Pacific Northwest institutions.

Much of the correspondence consists of letters between children in college and their parents.
