Content DescriptionReturn to Top
Album of photographs probably taken on travels throughout the United States and Canada in locations including Washington state, British Columbia, the Yukon, the Mississippi River at St. Paul, and Massachusetts. Some photos were also probably made in Oregon. A few images show Sikhs at a railroad station, possibly immigrants who came to British Columbia to work on railroad construction and lumber mills. The collection also includes images of miners and hunters, possibly in British Columbia or the Yukon. The photographs of miners were probably taken in travels on the White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad. The White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad was begun in 1898 during the Klondike Gold Rush and finished in 1900. The route started in Skagway, Alaska and covered 110 miles until it reached the end of the line in Whitehorse, Yukon.
