Content DescriptionReturn to Top
The biography of David Osborn, Sr. (1879) consists of a forty-six page typescript of an autobiographical sketch written by Osborn between 1860 and 1879. A postscript has been added by his son, David Osborn Jr. The most detailed sequences concern the persecution of the Mormons in Ohio, Missouri, and Illinois. The manuscript describes the confusion which followed the death of Joseph Smith. Osborn's recollections of his life in Utah concern family matters (births, marriages, and deaths) and daily activities. There is a brief reference to Joseph Morris and his followers, who lived near Osborn's son, Jefferson. In the final pages, Osborn relates several sermons by Joseph Smith he heard during the early period of the Mormon Church.
