Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Frank B. Queen, M.D. was born in St. John, Washington in 1904. He earned an A.B. from Washington State College in 1925 and an M.D. from the Washington University Medical School in St. Louis in 1929. Early in his medical career, he married Norma (her maiden name unknown). Queen began his professional practice at the University of Colorado School of Medicine as a pathology instructor from 1935-1938. From 1938-41, Queen served as Assistant and Associate Professor of Pathology as well as Assistant Director of the Patterson Tumor Clinic at the Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Illinois. In 1946, Queen relocated to Portland, Oregon for a Professor of Pathology position at the University of Oregon Medical School, teaching at the school for 13 years. Queen later served as head of the pathology department at Altman Hospital in Canton, Ohio up until his death in 1964.
Queen also served in the military as Major Colonel from March 1941 to January 1946. Among his many professional commitments, he also served as a member on the Planning Committee of the U.S. Public Health Service's National Advisory Cancer Council in 1947, Vice Chairman of the Portland Zoo Commission from 1950-1951, and President of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists from 1954-55.
