Accession No. 2617-001: Benjamin A. Maslan oral history interview, 1976Return to Top

2 sound cassettes (ca. 60 minutes)

Scope and Content: Tape-recorded interview covering the years 1890-1976 and conducted by Meta Buttnick Kaplan and Adena Russak on July 15, 1976.

This is a chronicle of the Maslan (Maslansky) family. It tells of their relocations from Vilna, Minsk, to Dublin, Manchester, Wisconsin, Texas and finally Washington. It dwells on their devotion to traditional Judaism and to Jewish learning. The value of the chronicle consists in its narration of the role of the Maslan family in the legal profession in Seattle. It is unique in the Maslan's promotion of fellowhip with non-Jews, and particularly with the Irish, by simple friendliness.

Digital Content/Other Formats: Listen to the audio recording of this interview on the Libraries Digital Collections site.
